The WAEVE – You Saw

The WAEVE, the collaboration between Blur’s Graham Coxon and the Pipettes’ Rose Elinor Dougall, has unveiled their new single “You Saw” from their forthcoming sophomore album, City Lights. The track, built around a rhythmic string line, reflects the duo’s exploration of how seemingly tiny decisions can have a profound impact on our lives. “You Saw” embodies the dynamic tension between discomfort and beauty that characterizes their music.

Produced by James Ford, who also worked on their debut, the album promises a bolder, more expansive sound. “The first record was an escape from global constrictions, this one rails against domestic ones,” Dougall explains. Coxon adds, “This album is more neurotic and grumpy—reflecting my straightforward approach to feelings, whether ugly or beautiful.”

City Lights includes tracks like “Song For Eliza May,” inspired by Dougall’s daughter, blending personal themes with broader societal reflections. The WAEVE’s new single, “You Saw,” perfectly sets the stage for the album’s September 20th release via Transgressive Records. With their unique soundscape, the duo continues to push boundaries and create compelling music.
